Folger-specific note
In Folger copy 15, [superscript pi]A1 is wanting; supplied in facsim. Leaf [superscript pi]A2 (title leaf) is mutilated toward the lower outer corner, affecting the port. and imprint on the title page The leaf is patched, with the affected part of the t.p. touched up with pen and ink or supplied in facsim. Although the imprint on the t.p. is affected, the t.p. otherwise exhibits enough of the distinctive points of issue 3 to demonstrate that it is of that issue. The extreme upper outer corner of [superscript pi]A2 (title leaf) also is patched. Most (if not all) leaves of gatherings [superscript pi]A and * and of gatherings 3b, 3c, and 3d (Cymb.) are guarded. Port. (on title page) in state 3. When sold at Sotheby's, Feb. 23, 1925, as lot 337 (in a condition "not subject to return"), this copy, according to the descripton in the sale catalog, wanted (aside from [superscript pi]A1, now supplied in facsim.) *2,3 and L3,4, which leaves are now supplied from another copy. Discolored and pressed the same as L3,4 are E6, R4, y3,4,5, 2c4, 2y3-2z2, 3b1-6, 3c3-3d4, so these leaves also are likely suplied from another copy. Imperfections affect text slightly on N3 and very slightly on l2, m1, and r5. Manuscript additions include two-line inscription (17th-cent.) "Shakespears Witt & excellency lyes // In women's Answers, & in Foole's replyes" (cropped), on [superscript pi]A2 recto (title page); cf. William Cartwright's "Upon the dramatick poems of Mr. John Fletcher" prefixed to Beaumont and Fletcher, Works (1647): "Shakespeare to thee was dull, whose best jest lyes // I' th Ladies questions, and Fooles replyes".
