Folger-specific note
Imperfect: leaves a1, a8, x7, and [rum]12 (blank?) lacking; a made-up copy, with gathering a, ruled in red, from a different copy. Numbering of each canto has been added by hand in headlines (except in 1st gathering); also a few markings and manuscript notes. In a 15th cent. Italian binding, goatskin on wooden boards, blind tooled with individual stamps and fillet borders; central motif repaired on both covers in brown goatskin, possibly at the place of a boss; evidence of 4 clasps and of 4 bosses; remains of red wax (or leather? previously bearing a small circular stamp?) at head of back pastedown. Bookplate of W.T. Smedley; purchased in 1924.
