Folger copy: leaves i4-i5, lacking, provided in manuscript; leaves c3 and c4 misbound, reading: c1, c2, c4, c3, c6, c5, c7, c8. Large initial on leaf a2r in blue with red penwork infill and some yellow, and margin extension; 1st initial of each alphabet letter through the book in blue paint, smaller ones in red; paragraph marks, capital strokes and underlining in red throughout the book, including the manuscript parts; mnemonic numbering in margins, a few finding notes and nota markings in same red paint (a few notes in same hand are in brown ink or lead); a few guide letters provided in same red paint. Manuscript proem on recto of 1st leaf reading: "[in red] P[ro]hemiũ reuerendi p[at]ris f[rat]ris b[ar]tholomei de s[an]c[t]o [con]cordio ord[in]is fr[atru]m p[rae]dicatoru[m] de pisis. [in black] Qvonia[m] ut ait gregorius sup[er] ezechiele[m] nullu[m] o[mn]ipotenti deo tale sacrificiu[m] est .." in same hand as manuscript text on replacement leaves i4 and i5. Bookplate bearing bibliographic notes, of John William Pease (no. 140 in the Sotheby sale catalog of his library, March 1920); bookplate of W.T. Smedley; purchased in 1924. Rebound in early 20th century, retaining original blind stamped calf covers (probably German) over new wooden boards; front cover bears triple-fillet borders and juxtaposition of small square stamps in central panel (unicorn, lamb, stag stamps); on back cover 4 stamps in a lozenge (unicorn, lamb, stag, and a hound); evidence of 5 circular bosses on both covers and of 2 clasps on fore-edge; edges trimmed and gilt.
