Lacks leaf b1, blank, and leaf b2 (contents of incipit provided from BM 15th cent. description). Initials in alternate red and blue paint; capital strokes and paragraph marks in red throughout; underlining of most occurences of the name "Boethius" in commentary, and additions by the rubricator of headlines with numbering at the beginning of most of the books; also a small correction in text in same red ink on leaf [d]7v. Abundant interlineary notes in brown ink, mostly in the 1st gatherings of text, and a few notes in margins, with manicules, underlining, and brackets; also a few corrections in text in same ink. In a contemporary quarter alum tawed pigskin binding with very worn leather (probably calf) on beech boards, blind tooled with dragon stamps (Cf. Schwenke-Schunke, Drache 36 "Amorbach Werkstatt III") and leaf stamps; remains of 2 clasps; vellum guards inside of gatherings; vellum pastedowns, the front pastedown bearing French manuscript deed dated 1616 (partially illegible); spine label in red goatskin reading "Boecy Consol: Philos:"; mold on many leaves; in a tailored box. Ownership inscription on verso of last leaf, defaced, illegible; bookplate of W.T. Smedley; purchased in 1924.
