Folger copy 81: Twenty-five plays (299 original and 9 facsimile leaves) in 16 volumes, bound in red goatskin with gold tooling and titling; edges gilt. Owned by Mr. and Mrs. Folger. Imperfect: wanting all preliminary leaves (everything before A1), and the following plays: Tempest (A1-B4) ; Two gentlemen of Verona (B4-D1) ; Twelfth Night (Y2-Z6) ; Winter's tale (2A1-2C2) ; Henry V (h1-k2) ; Henry VI pts. 1-3 (k2-q4) ; Henry VIII (t3-x4) ; Titus Andronicus (2c4-2e2) ; and Cymbeline (2z3-3b6). Folger copies 81 and 82 were made up at the same time.The best copy of each leaf went into this set; the second-best went into a similar set of volumes bound in green; facsimile leaves were replaced with originals as they came to hand. Assembled from a variety of sources, comprising D2-Y1, a1-[superscript chi]2g8, q5-t2, +'gg3'-2c3, 2e-2z2. Facsimile leaves are N4, R1, R6, S3 (an original S3, badly damaged, is loosely inserted), 2f5, 2g², 2G5, 2n6, 2t6. Each leaf is inlaid and taped into a case (except for facsimile leaves R1, R6, and 2G5, which are loose). Source copies include 'Copy X' (at least f4, f6, g2, g6, [superscript chi]2g2-3, 2n5, 2v5, 2x2, 2y1); 'large cross' copy (H4, a2, A6); 'Nursery promptbook' (2o6); 'Scene-numbered Hamlet' (2p4, reversed).
