Provenance: Discovered about 1850 by Charles Buttery, picture restorer to Queen Victoria; bought by William Russell, at whose death it was purchased by Horace Buttery and was in his possession by 1890; by 1896 owned by Ellis and Elvey, New Bond Street, London.
