Provenance
Provenance: Anderson, January 1921, as by J. M. W. Turner. This painting was sold along with two watercolors, also said to be by Turner, for $1,000. Anderson wrote that he thought he had acquired this work from the collection of John E. Parsons. He does not say to whom the work was then attributed, but he was the one to identify it as by Turner. He later "discovered" Turner's signature on the upper portion of the sword scabbard.
