Signed and dated at lower left: "J[difficult to cipher with certainty] DeWilde 1823 [or possibly 1825]".
Insribed on the title page of the book to the left of the monkey: "VORTIGERN / AND / ROWENA" (a reference to Henry Ireland's forgery, first performed in April 1796 and published in 1799). To the right of the monkey the Shakespeare Folio os opened so that one sees indications of Ben Jonson's dedication at the left and the Droeshout engraving at the right, beneath which is inscribed: "Mr WM. SHAKSPEARE / 1623." Title page of book right of center: "THE / SILENT WOMAN / by B. JONSON / A / TALE OF A TUB."
